Purposes:
The purposes of the Society are to:
•    Establish a world-wide network for interaction among nurses interested in Orem's conceptualizations of nursing.
•    Expand, refine, and clarify understanding of Orem's conceptualizations of nursing.
•    Provide avenues for gathering, organizing, and disseminating knowledge developed in relation to Orem's conceptualizations of nursing.
•    Facilitate the use of Orem's conceptualizations of nursing as a basis for nursing education, practice, research, and theory development.
•    Advance nursing science by promoting scientific and scholarship activity.

Membership in the Society provides opportunities to:
•    Participate in Biennial International Orem Conferences.
•    Network with educators, researchers, practitioners, and administrators utilizing and developing Orem's conceptualizations throughout the world.
•    Communicate through Society Newsletter.
•    Participate in small theory development groups.
•    Access a database on published and unpublished papers on Orem's conceptualizations.
•    Co-sponsor theory and implementation conferences.
